Albert W. "Nick" Hughes of Sandy Springs and White Plains, Georgia passed away January 5, 2018, due to the progressive effects of kidney and heart disease.

He was born January 14, 1935 in Atlanta, Ga, son of Albert W. Hughes and Edith Bivins Hughes. He graduated from Edward Little High School in Auburn, Maine (1952) and from Duke University in 1956, with a degree in Business Administration. He completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School during the early 1970's.

In 1957, Nick married Janice Tufts, and they were married for 58 years before her passing in 2015. He worked for the Coca-Cola Company for 40 years in various capacities: Sales, Marketing, Purchasing, as President of Coca-Cola/Japan, and as Project Manager for construction of the World of Coca-Cola Pavilion. His work took him (and Janice) to St. Louis, San Antonio, Atlanta, Tokyo, Chicago, and back to Atlanta. He served as Coca-Cola's liaison to United Way and as director of the Minority Purchasing Council.

Nick enjoyed many hobbies: travel, golf, woodworking, hunting, and most of all, his children and their families. He was an elder of the Northwest Presbyterian Church and member of the Greene County Country Club.

He is survived by his daughter Kathleen Hughes Danforth (husband David) of Sandy Springs GA, their son Jason Danforth, her sons David and Cody Clegg - and by his son Thomas Scott Hughes (wife Laura) of St. Louis MO, their children Sarah Hughes Wilson (husband Strother), Taylor Hughes (wife Alexandria) and Zachary Hughes - and by his brother, Stephen Thomas Hughes of New York, NY, along with many beloved cousins.

Visitation will be held January 12, from 6 to 8 PM at the Sandy Springs Chapel in Sandy Springs GA. A funeral service will be held January 13 at 11AM at the Northwest Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, with a family-only interment following at Arlington Memorial Park in Atlanta.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are encouraged to the National Kidney Foundation, Alzheimer's Association, Northwest Presbyterian Church, or other charity of choice.
